Which Kind Of Visa To Visit Phu Quoc Island Vietnam For US Passport Holder?

I’m going to travel to Phu Quoc island in 2 weeks. Please share experience how to get there and which kind of visa should American citizen apply for?

Every citizen in the world is exempted Vietnam visa to visit Phu Quoc island for not more than 30 days with tourism purpose.

For your question:

If you are going to come here in 2 weeks with tourism purpose, so it is totally possible for you to enter Phu Quoc island without visa.

Some international airports have direct flights to Phu Quoc island:

  • Bangkok Suvarnabhumi international airport in Thailand
  • Hong Kong international airport in Hong Kong
  • Guangzhou international airport in China
  • Kuala Lumpur international airport in Malaysia
  • Seoul Incheon international airport in South Korea

You can check which airport is convenient for you and take a direct flight to Phu Quoc island. If not, you need to transit in Tan Son Nhat airport (Ho Chi Minh city) or Noi Bai airport (Ha Noi) and take a domestic flight to Phu Quoc island. In this case, you have to apply visa in advance cause it’s required visa when you land in the other airports.

In case you stay here for more than 30 days or you want to visit other places in Vietnam, you also have to apply for Vietnam visa. Both Electronic visa (e-visa) and Visa On Arrival are suitable and convenient for American citizens to apply online without going to Vietnam embassy or consulate.
